Contextual Yet Humble Lighting Design to Stage the Luxurious Carpets
As a luxurious caspet brand, TAIPING CARPET showroom architecture in Jakarta was designed in such a way that the beauty of the showroom does not overcome the displays. The architect (done by internal design group) create a simple and monolithic space to make sure that the carpets on displays are stand out, while maintaining the luxury ambiance.
Inspired by Taiping as Chinese word, lighting design for entrance facade was derived from Chinese elements. The horse initiates the inspiration of animal symbols as part of Chinese philosophy.
The line from floor to ceiling and across to front door represent standing snake. Other linear lights were formed to create Chinese curve gate. The light composition creates contextual symbolism as well as proper illumination of the entrance.
Design approach in interior lighting on the other hand, focusing on human experience; being in the verge of inside-outside ambiance and admiring the display to the finest details. There are key principles applied :
- Being as discreet as possible to let the space is displayed “as it is”
- Blending perception of real skylight and artificial skylight that embedded as part of ceiling.
- Discreet small aperture track spotlights, graze the carpet surface to reveal their intricate textures.
